Earlier this year when we bought our Merlin Annual Passes we pledged to try to not only make the most of them but to try to visit as many of the 31 Merlin worlds as possible.
During May half term we planned to head over to Birmingham to catch up with some friends and visit a few local places. En route we decided to visit Warwick Castle.
Unfortunately we had a few hiccups on the morning we were due to head over to Warwick Castle which meant we didn’t arrive until mid afternoon. Luckily for us Warwick Castle was open until 6pm on the day we visited so we were still able to enjoy some of what it had to offer.
Using our Merlin Annual Passes we were able to simply scan out bar-coded passes and enter. Grabbing a map we headed off to see what Warwick Castle had in-store for us.
Horrible Histories – Mediaeval Mayhem
During the May half term and then again throughout the summer there is a special exhibition showcasing the gruesome sights, sounds and smells of mediaeval England.
A range of tents, stalls and activities have been set up at the bottom of the hill just past Pageant Playground. Roo and Tigger loved walking around looking at all the gruesome things on display.
Tigger thought that The Ploppy Shop was especially funny and smelly all at the same time. Whereas Roo thought that the mediaeval toilet was fascinating and I couldn’t resist popping her in the stocks!
Horrible Histories – Wicked Warwick
Unfortunately we missed the Horrible Histories Wicked Warwick live show. We hope to catch it during the summer as we have heard good things about it.
Time Tower
One of the latest editions to Warwick Castle is the Time Tower. A great attraction that takes you on a journey through the history of Warwick Castle via a range of screens, rooms and special effects. A fabulous way to get up to speed on the history of the grand castle, the owners and the conflict is has seen.
Guy’s Tower
Around the castle there are many walkways and towers that you are able to climb up. Guy’s Tower is the highest tower to climb via a winding spiral staircase. Once we reached the top I could fully understand why there were some advisories at the bottom of the tower. The stairs seem to go on and on, boy was I shattered when I got to the top but the view from the top makes all those steps worth it.
With so much more to see and do at Warwick Castle we are already planning on visiting again over the summer to enjoy the rest of the attraction.
