Planning Your Trip

Planning a family trip to Sicily from the UK is easy. Since it is located in the South of Europe it is easily accessible and there is no shortage of flights to choose from. There are four international airports in the towns of Catania, Palermo, Trapani, and Comiso, which allows for a multitude of options to choose from when booking a flight from anywhere in the UK.

When it comes to accommodation, there are many options. Villas are often the way to go when traveling to this region. A beachfront villa offers many advantages, including privacy to enjoy family time, while also offering economical advantages like self-catering and the luxury of being able to share the cost with other family members.

Activities

There are many fun activities for the whole family to enjoy on a trip to Sicily. This ranges from shopping in Taormina to hiking in the Mount Etna region. There is truly a range of things to do for everyone. For the adventure-oriented families, The Madonie Adventure Park offers plenty of outdoorsy attractions including a rope ladder, cable slides, and even mountain biking and horse riding.

For education-conscious parents, history lessons are littered all throughout Sicily. With the Catacombs in Palermo offering up underground walkways with the mummified remains of the noble classes of Palermo’s 16th and 17th Century. Why not stop off at one of Sicily’s many Greek amphitheaters located in Syracuse, Taormina, Segesta, Tindari, Catania, and Eraclea Minoa.

When in the mood for entertainment Sicily has a strong tradition of puppet theaters. They can be found in all major towns. The most famous puppeteer is Mimmo Cutichio in Bara dell-Olivella in Palermo. There is even an International Puppet Museum in Palermo as well. These performances are fun for the entire family.

Lastly (and most importantly) Sicily’s food is something thousands of people flock to yearly. Sicilian food is arguably the best cuisine in the world. It proves to be a family favorite. Children can always enjoy pasta and pizza followed by a refreshing scoop of gelato, while parents can dig into grilled fish and Italian Carpaccio. Sicily has some of the most family friendly food in the world.

Sicily is the optimal vacation locale for Britons. It provides an escape from the English weather, to a truly new cultural experience. Families are able to escape to a place where they can go at the own pace. After all, it is a holiday.
