Today marks National Sibling Day. Although it is not celebrated as much in the UK as it is in the US, it marks a day when we should all be thankful for our siblings. Just as we celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day each year, why shouldn’t we celebrate our partners in crime, the other peas in our pod and the ones who always took the blame when you said ‘it wasn’t me’.
National Sibling Day
For those of you who know me, will understand how important it was to me that my children had siblings. Coming from a relatively small family that is now scattered across the UK, I have always craved the big family unit. I look forward to my children coming over for Sunday lunch, bringing their dirty washing home from university and asking whether they can borrow my car etc. I also look forward to the relationship that they have with each other now continuing and that no matter what highs or lows they have within their lives they are there for each other.
I often find myself sitting and watching Roo, Tigger and Piglet interacting and am amazed at how well they click together. Don’t get me wrong they have their moments, oh boy do they have their moments when they only have to look at each other and they are arguing etc. But thankfully, on the whole, they do get on very well – which is something that I worried about given that there is at least a four-year age gap between each one of them.
Whilst nobody knows what will happen in the future, whether big fallouts will happen or they live in different places – for now, we are able to celebrate National Sibling Day together.
