Before I feel pregnant with Roo there was a lady at work who was expecting a baby and would come in and show me all her baby buys. One day she came in and showed me a baby sleeping bag which I thought was amazing, no kicking off the covers and keeping baby warm and cozy when moving them from arms to Moses basket etc. Needless to say that when I feel pregnant with Roo I headed straight out and bought one or two (in fact I had about three or four in each age range – so much so that my best friend banned me from buying any more!).
I again bought new ones when I was expecting Tigger (although not quite as many) and of course now that I’m expecting Piglet I am on the look out for a sleeping bag (or two) for her. I was recently introduced to My Baby’s Name Is and they have sent me a gorgeous Yasmine Yellow for her arrival – full review to follow closer to my due date, in the meantime let me tell you all about My Baby’s Name Is…
My Baby’s Name Is
My Baby’s Name Is was created by London-based luxury product designer Szymon Klos, with a mission to make high quality baby sleeping bags for design-conscious parents.
“As soon as we found out we were having a baby, my wife & I started researching baby products and having our first conversations about what kinds of things we were going to buy. We both love simple, well designed products for the home & we’re both always been inspired by Scandinavian design so we were naturally drawn to that kind of style. When we discovered baby sleeping bags, we both loved the functionality of the products, but couldn’t find any that we would actually purchase. I had a pretty clear picture in my head of what I was looking for – simple, plain, high quality sleeping bags in bright, contemporary colours – & I couldn’t find anything like it on the market. I felt there was an opportunity to create a more contemporary, designed range of sleeping bags & My Baby’s Name Is was born”.
As a product designer with many years experience in the luxury industry Szymon worked hard to source the very best materials for the sleeping bags. He spent many hours going through textile swatches before finally settling on a premium 100% cotton fabric from Spain for the outer layer and an ultra soft organic cotton inner layer. He then worked with the fabric mills to create a bright range of contemporary colours, making sure that the dyeing process adheres to strict environmental regulations.
Finding the right factory was equally important
“I feel strongly about supporting European manufacturing so I worked with an award-winning baby goods producer in Poland, from an area famous for a 200-year-old textile industry. We worked closely on getting each detail finished to the very highest quality and all the products passed the rigorous tests needed to achieve British Standard certification.”
The design of the sleeping bags is contemporary & refined, with a subtle nod to traditional quilting techniques. The characteristic quilted design also works to improve the sleeping bag’s comfort and flexibility. The unique customisable collar labels are another great design detail, allowing the parents to write or sew in their baby’s name.
Szymon & his wife introduced their daughter Matylda to the sleeping bags as soon as she was born:
“She was our director of quality control throughout the development process & she still sleeps happily and comfortably on one of our sleeping bags every night!”
