As Roo’s ninth birthday approaches and she truly hits those tween years I have been thinking about what possibilities lay ahead for her. We’ve had a few ‘but I can’t’ moments recently which I have tried to explain that she can do anything that she puts her mind to. Whether it is figuring out the English homework that she has left to the last-minute or overcoming her fear of being in goal during football practice.
I don’t want Roo to feel like there are limits on the possibilities in life, I want her to dream big, I want her to try 101 different things before she finds the one that works for her. I want her to believe that she can become the pop princess that she wants to be because that is her dream, her possibility and she can make it happen.
We are too quick to limit our children’s and our own possibilities because we don’t believe that we can reach for that goal, that opportunity, that career – imagine the possibilities ahead of us if we were free to imagine that we could be anything we wanted.
What happens when girls are free to imagine they can be anything?
Barbie recently placed some hidden cameras to capture real reactions to girls imagining everything they might one day become – take a look at what happened…
When Roo plays with her Barbie she imagines everything she can become and that makes me proud
