What not to forget at Christmas

Winter is upon us, and that can only mean one thing, Christmas is well and truly nearly here. With a few precious weeks of planning left, are you ready for the big day? Some people are super organised when it comes to the festive period, whereas others can leave things to the last minute. But I guarantee that many of us will forget one important factor of this season. So I thought I would share with you some of the things you are most likely to forget at Christmas, hoping they prompt you, just in case.

The Christmas feast

The main feast itself is different for everyone around the world. The people in the UK enjoy a big turkey, the Philippines, and people in America are likely to choose a Ham. Maybe the Australians will throw a few shrimps on the BBQ. Some traditions are similar across the cultures, and others are different. But there can be a lot of pressure placed on this big feast for the whole family to enjoy.

One of the biggest things people can forget is the main attraction of the feast, and that could be your meat or your vegetarian option. A great tip is to organise and order your food in advance. That way you know it’s taken care of leaving you one less thing to worry about.

What not to forget at Christmas

Your home security

During the festive period can be a time where burglary can increase. This is mostly down to you not being in your home as often while visiting family and friends. Or even just having items ready to be gifted being stored in your home, sometimes highly-priced items at that. So it’s easy to forget that you need to make sure your home security is up to scratch.

Your home security could also be threatened just by uploading your whereabouts and what you are up to on websites like Facebook and Twitter. Broadcasting when your home is vacant for unwanted eyes to see. It’s always a good idea to check you have the privacy levels on those profiles that you are happy with.

Sending our your festive greetings

Sending out a Christmas card or a holiday postcard is something many people enjoy doing. But quite often it can be something you don’t think about until it’s too late. Perhaps you have missed the cut-off for your Christmas post or just didn’t get organised this year. It’s one of the most common things to forget. Perhaps you have sent out your Christmas cards but forgotten a few family members or loved ones.

A great tip is to keep a list of everyone you want to send a greeting to, ticking off as you have completed them will ensure no one gets left off. Be sure to update your address book when you receive cards this year too, this is often the time of year we hear from distant family and friends.

What not to forget at Christmas

That one present

Finally, just like you can forget to send cards to someone, you are always likely to forget that one present for that particular person. Just like you do with cards, keep a list handy of who you need to consider buying for. It’s a great way to keep on top of things and also budget for the festive season ahead. Keep one or two generic gifts aside in case you have forgotten someone or you entertain an unexpected guest.

Be sure to take a look at the Christmas Gift Guides I have put together for inspiration on your gift purchases this year.

I hope this helps you navigate your way through the busy Christmas period and helps ensure you don’t forget at Christmas anything important.
