[box] Were you born in a barn?[/box]
I can remember my Mam saying that to me and my siblings when I was younger as we left whichever door wide open. I never really understood why she would get so annoyed about us leaving the door open, that was until I had children of my own.
When we first moved into our little home nearly 8 years ago I was pregnant with Roo and up until she was almost a year old we never had central heating. So with just gas fires in the living room and dining room, along with an electric heater in the bedroom we would walk around the house opening and closing doors. I used to joke with Mr Boo that it was like leaving on the set of ‘The Others‘ film. We were constantly making sure that the heat was contained to the rooms that needed it.
Thankfully we managed to save up and get central heating installed, oh what a difference central heating can make (but that is a different story). Even with central heating we live in an old terrace house so drafts are part and parcel of home. So on what feels like every ten minutes I am constantly saying ‘please shut the door!‘ or ‘were you born in barn?‘ the latter provokes the same vacant expression that a no doubtfully gave to my Mam when I was their age too.
Maybe I am just getting old or my children just don’t feel the cold but honestly kiddiwinks…
