Life In Lockdown… As the days. weeks and months of lockdown have passed. It’s been interesting to see the different ways we have adapted our lives and things we have been doing to occupy our time. After looking through social media throughout lockdown I have started to question whether I am missing out on the full lockdown experience.
Life In Lockdown – Are we missing out on the full lockdown experience?
Zoom meetings
The world and his wife appear to have jumped on the Zoom meeting bandwagon. A way to continue meetings whilst working from home. Even the children have had Zoom meetings with school and chats with their friends. I, on the other hand, have not partaken in a single Zoom chat.
Making 101 meals
Food seems to be one of the most important things to people during the lockdown. Commenting on how many meals and snacks that they are preparing each day for their families. I’m not sure if I’m just starving my family but we are still only having three meals a day and potentially grabbing some fruit or a biscuit for an afternoon snack – just as we did before lockdown. Should I be feeding them more?
Banana bread
Alongside the 101 meals that people appear to be making each and every day. I think I might be one of the only people not to have made banana bread. Did everyone bulk buy bananas alongside toilet roll and pasta? With the only logical way to use them up by making a fresh banana bread each day?
Daily exercise allowance
When lockdown was first announced the government allows people to continue with one daily exercise entitlement. Which was interesting to see how people interpreted this into their lives. From the ones who happily headed off on 20 mile bike rides, posting the distance, time etc. on social medias a proud act. To the people who wouldn’t go to a shop/supermarket or walk down the street due to the virus risk. But would be happy to visit local walks and nature trails where they would be touching gates and fences etc. I simply decided that it wasn’t worth the risk. Obviously I’m privileged as we have a garden that we can utilise to get outdoors and get ‘fresh air’.
Wine o’clock
Whilst there is always the joke on social media around whether or not it is ‘wine o’clock‘, or ‘it’s after five somewhere in the world‘. During the lockdown this has certainly increased, with many counting this as a necessity to get through homeschooling, being at home etc. Each to their own, I suppose, however, as the daughter of an alcoholic I see this from a vantage point. Alcohol can help you have a good time, enjoyment etc. but shouldn’t be something that is utilised as a coping mechanism. It’s a slippery slope.
Are there any aspects of the lockdown experience that you have missed out on?
