Most people in the UK are going about their daily lives unaware that they have the power to change a child’s life.
It doesn’t take much. As little as 50 pence a day is enough to fund donations for the whole community that will help that child and their family see their way out of poverty.
Less than 50 pence a day – an amount that has very little impact on a donor, but a huge impact on children living in countries which are currently suffering from conflict, disease and natural disaster.
In most cases, child sponsorship can often be one of the best ways of ensuring that children stay with their families and are kept safe. Any contribution does not go directly to the child, but instead goes towards the most urgent need in that child’s community, be it through agricultural training, renovating wells for clean water, building and restoring schools or providing immunisations. All of this is designed to help families break the cycle of poverty and make families stronger.
This ensures the best possible future for children living in such environments. A sponsored child, as well as his or her entire community, will benefit from renovated wells, improved nutrition, school fees and supplies and teacher training – all of which are necessary for growth and development.
A child sponsor also has the opportunity to form a special bond with that child. They will be their only donor, and as such their kindness and generosity will be an inspiration to the child. Charities such as Plan UK have been changing children’s lives one step at a time by setting up child sponsorship, allowing for a one-on-one relationship with a sponsor. A sponsor can also choose whether to donate to a girl or boy and will be able to track how their lives change for the better as a result of their sponsorship through the notes, letters and photographs they will receive.
As well as this, the sponsor can take pride in the fact that their special relationship is helping improve the sponsored child’s literacy skills as they read letters and write back. A sponsor will also be giving the child the invaluable gift of knowing that someone cares, even though they are many miles away.
At least 80 pence in every pound goes towards development work for that child’s community. A small amount of sponsorship money goes toward building and sustaining that connection, as charities keep records of sponsored children and translate and forward the letters between you.
Charities such as Plan UK are working tirelessly to create a better future for children living in abject poverty – however, nothing can improve without the help and support of sponsors.
Please, consider child sponsorship with Plan UK today and help change the world, one child at a time.
