As soon as spring starts to get closer many people think about organising and decluttering their home. While this is quite commonly referred to as spring cleaning, there’s another type of spring cleaning that bloggers should be thinking about. It’s important that you review your blog from time to time to ensure it’s running quickly, efficiently and is easy to navigate. In addition, you may want to adjust the theme or feel for your blog every so often.
The spring season is the best time of year to start getting that blog all cleaned up and organised. Today I’m going to show you how to do this.
Why spring clean your blog?
The biggest point of spring cleaning and organising your blog is to make sure you don’t have too many things such as sidebar images or blog plugins weighing your load time down. In addition, you want to ensure your information on your About Page is up to date, and that visitors can easily find a way to contact you should the need arise. You want to keep that blog looking fresh and clean so that you can attract more visitors and increase your ad revenue.
Analyse Theme
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that changing your blog theme can help with your search engine ranking as well as help with the speed of your blog. Be sure to analyze your theme, peeking at the code to see if you have any extra fluff in the header. All too often we sign up for various ad revenue sites or sponsored post platforms that require a little code in our blog header, but when we leave that network or no longer have the code requirement, we keep the code sitting in there. Remove all extra code, update your theme to something faster, and run a cache plugin to spring clean your blog.
Review Tagline and About Page
Every blogger should have an About Page that showcases who you are, what your blog’s mission is and so on. This page should also include links to any interviews or special features/awards you’ve received throughout your blogging career. Review your tagline to make sure it still suits your blog’s niche, perhaps update it to something catchier if you desire. This step of spring cleaning and organising your blog is all about updating your information and making sure your content still matches your tagline, mission and about me page.
Clean up Your Sidebar
Be sure to clean up any extra code, images or other items you’ve placed on your sidebar. If you have ads placed on your sidebar be sure to review whether or not they’re making you any revenue. It’s important to clean up your sidebar every year as part of your spring cleaning and organising your blog so that you’re making the most from your space on the internet. If you see that your sidebar has outdated ads or extra information that doesn’t need to be there, then simply remove it. Feel free to replace current ads with new ones on your sidebar to see if they’ll make you more money.
