One of the thing that sets off my ‘mama bear’ parenting instincts is my children’s education. Wishing to ensure that they are accessing the best that is available to us and that they are thriving in that atmosphere.
This has come from day one, know that at some point they would need to access nursery care via a day nursery setting, before moving up to a school preschool environment when they received their three year old government funding the term after they turn three.
The best start to their education journey
The decision to move Roo from a daycare setting to a school nursery/preschool when she received her funded hours was something that we knew that we would always do. Wishing to give her the best start to her education as possible.
When the time came for Tigger to receive his funding I had a bit of a wobble. Unsure whether moving him would be the best option for him. His daycare setting knew him, they understood his food issues and they knew his quirks etc. My practical side took over and I moved him to start in the school preschool that Roo had attended and subsequently moved up into the main school.
Fast forward to Piglet’s turn and I’ve had a few battles on my hands this time around. Discussions with our local school last year made me realise that there was no place in preschool for her when her funding came into place in January. With them opting not to do mid-year admissions (despite their admission policy stating that they do).
A further battle about offering funded 30-hour placements happened at the beginning of the month. Which apparently was just a badly worded newsletter and they wouldn’t be charging eligible parents for the 30 hours funding places.
Could the school preschool be a possibility?
Over the weekend a letter arrived from the school regarding preschool placements for September. The letter indicates that Piglet has been offered one of the elusive 30-hour placements. However, the accompanying form asks whether we’d accept at 15-hour placement if the 30-hour placements are full – which I said I wouldn’t accept as this would be unsuitable for work commitments.
So I’m unsure whether she has a 30-hour placement or not.
I’ve completed the form, attached all the relevant documentation and handed it into the office first thing this morning. Hoping that it is a first come, first served basis – with this school it could well be!
Could the school preschool be a possibility for Piglet this September?
Who knows?
