The journey to having children was something that took a little longer than anticipated for Mr Boo and I. Whilst we have been very lucky to have three children I can still recall those early days when two lines appeared on the pregnancy test with Roo. Although children were very much part of our plan, I had very little practical experience with them. This in itself made me question how I would be as a parent. How would I manage? How would I know if I was doing it right? so many questions to every aspect of parenting.
I had a colleague and friend who was pregnant at the same time as me (six weeks ahead of me). She would talk about motherhood as though it was going to be the best days of her life. Planning what groups she was going to do whilst on maternity leave, planning her breastfeeding journey and even planning on how soon she would like to add a sibling. This terrified me, I was more considered about whether I’d manage to get changed out of pyjamas or leave the house with a newborn. Another colleague could see that I was nervous about becoming a parent. She sat me down and said ‘There will be days when you wonder why on earth you signed up for parenting. However, there will also be moments in those days when you wouldn’t change places with anyone for anything. Parenting is hard, there is no right or wrong, just go with what you feel is best at that particular time’.
Those words have stayed with me some twelve years later and have been recited to friends as they have started their journey to becoming parents. The Book of Everyone realises that most new parents could do with a little extra guidance, especially from those who have already been around the block once, twice or even more times.

Wise(ish) Words for New Parents // The personalised touch
When I came to design a book for my friend who has just welcomed her first baby, I stuck to the prefilled suggestions. With three nuggets to choose from, I found that these offered a good tone for the book that I wanted to create. Whilst there is the jokey aspect to some of the suggestions, I opted for the more useful ones. Take a look at a couple of the ones I selected below:
Throughout the book, I kept each page light-hearted but hopefully given them a little insight into the world of parenting. Highlighting the joys they will feel as well as the days that don’t quite go the way they expected. This would make the perfect baby shower gift, with each guest offering a piece of advice to be printed on the pages throughout the book.
