Before the school holidays started we made a bucket list of things we’d like to do and places we’d like to visit. Over the past weeks, we have slowly been crossing them off our list as we enjoyed various days out together as a family.
Earlier this month I shared with you the new of the Wonderlab: The Statoil Gallery opening at the Science Museum in London. To celebrate the Wonderlab, Statoil has put together three special scavenger hunts in Great Yarmouth, London, and Aberdeen. With #Wondroid the robot needing us to help find his body parts we decided it would the perfect activity to add to our summer bucket list.
The night before I headed over to the Statoil webpage to download the free Traces app and take a look at the first clue so I knew where we needed to start.
Great Yarmouth #Wondroid Scavenger Hunt
After dropping Mr. Boo at work we headed over to Great Yarmouth seafront to start our #Wondroid scavenger hunt. With just three locations within the scavenger hunt, it makes it manageable with children, although they are spread over the length of the seafront so a bit of walking to complete.
Starting at the south of the seafront we opened the Traces app and took a look at the first clue. As soon as I saw it I knew exactly where they meant and Roo quickly shouted out where we needed to go too.
I decided that we would take the opportunity that we were on the seafront to take in some of Great Yarmouth’s attractions along the way. Starting with Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach, which, we hadn’t been too for ages so it was lovely to refresh ourselves with the rides. Especially wooden rollercoaster which was built in 1932 and is still operational today, with it being the only one remaining in the UK.
Whilst London may have the London Eye, Great Yarmouth has its big wheel. Located next Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach it gives you great views of the seafront, out to sea and of the local area on a clear day. Sadly our visit coincided with a cloud mass so weren’t able to see much but a great attraction to visit.
It wouldn’t be a trip to the seafront without us popping into the SEALIFE Centre Great Yarmouth to see our favourite penguin Boomer (as well as all the other fish etc.). For as along as I can remember we have been annual pass holders for the SEALIFE Centre and visit regularly (although school gets in the way now but we try to visit at least once a month).
With another clue to help us locate more #Wondroid parts we were a little puzzled by this one at first but managed to work out where we needed to be by following the helpful arrows on the Traces app.
A trip to Joyland was in order after collecting more robot parts with a celebratory go on the snails. One of the great things about Great Yarmouth seafront is that there is something for everyone, with thrill rides in the pleasure beach or gentler ones for little ones or those not as adventurous in Joyland.
A quick pitstop to refuel ourselves with a picnic that I’d brought to enjoy on the beach by Britannia Pier. The children loved watching the donkey rides taking place as we munched our way through sandwiches and treats. I did offer them a go on the donkeys but they weren’t keen.
With just one more set of #Wondroid robot parts to find we continued along the seafront whilst looking out to the Scroby Sands wind farm. As we made our way up to The Waterways we returned to our familiar stomping ground, having lived just a 5 minute walk away for 10 years. The final clue was read out by Roo and it was Tigger who knew where we had to head for this one as he has probably spent more time in this area that Roo whilst she was at school.
With #Wondroid robot parts collected it was time to head home for a well-earned rest.
