As someone who loves their sleep, it was important to me as a parent that each of my children had a bedtime routine almost from an early age. Starting a bedtime routine isn’t something that happens overnight but over the course of a week or two, you can slowly get a routine into place.
Our bedtime routine consists of a bath to wash away all the delights of the day, plus it’s a great way to burn off any excess energy with lots of splashing. Then it is time for pyjamas, with Piglet wearing her new Cloudbabies Baby Girl Zip All-in-one from Zippy which is simply adorable. It has a zip fastening which goes down the middle of the sleepsuit then down one leg which makes getting her dressed and completing nappy changes much easier, especially when she is wriggling as it can be a pain trying to line up poppers, so this is when the zip comes into its own. It’s snuggly soft and the cheery yellow adds that little bit of sunshine into our bedtime routine.

Once everyone is changed into their pyjamas (including me) it is time for some quiet, chill out time where we sit down to enjoy an episode of Cloudbabies whilst Piglet drinks her bedtime bottle of milk. Once it has finished and the CBeebies bedtime song has been sung I take Piglet up to her crib, with Roo and Tigger heading off to brush their teeth and use the toilet.
Once Piglet has settled in her crib it is time for Tigger to head to bed, with his night-light switched on and his lullaby playing on his monitor (yes he still has a monitor as he suffers from night terrors so we need to hear him at all times). Roo grabs a book and settles on the sofa reading for an hour before she heads up to bed.
And that is our bedtime routine which is the same every night, Tigger and Roo’s bedtime might vary by 30 minutes depending on whether it is the school holidays but they are generally all in bed by 8pm. Roo has always been an early riser and not matter how late you put her to bed she will still wake the same time so we have found that a set bedtime works better and she is still getting the sleep she needs without being cranky the day after.
What is your children’s bedtime routine?
