I have a love hate relationship when it comes to cleaning my house. There are times when I get the urge to give it a good deep clean and others when I have grabbed the packet of baby wipes and simply wiped the dust away (we’ve all done this right?).
As long as the bathroom and kitchen are clean I’m happy to have the ‘lived in’ look to the rest of the house – we don’t live like pigs but the skirting boards could do with a wipe over more often than they do and I haven’t pulled out the chest of drawers etc. in the bedroom to vacuum behind.
Now that I’m pregnant I must admit that the housework has fallen to the wayside in favour of impromptu afternoon naps and I’m looking forward to when my nesting instinct kicks in so that the house will look clean and tidy ready for Piglet’s arrival.
How long does it take you to clean your house?
When the cleaning bug hits me (or a get myself really annoyed and need to clean to work out my frustrations) I’m someone who likes to take each room as it comes. Generally allowing up to an hour per room depending on how much there is to do in that room, the children’s rooms for example can easily swallow up a whole afternoon wading through their nic naks and random pieces of paper.
I approach each room in the same way armed with a black bag for all the rubbish and a box for all the things that don’t belong in that room – it’s surprising at just how many items you find in different rooms that should be stored elsewhere and you magically find that one thing you have been searching for.
With the rubbish etc removed it is time to get on with the actual cleaning and whilst most people will have a spray bottle for each different task I personally think that you can’t beat a bucket filled with pine disinfectant (I love the smell of pine disinfectant), a couple of cleaning cloths and a bit of elbow grease. With surfaces wipes free from dust, skirting boards looking nice and white once again behind the layer of random blue fluff that accumulates on them I then give the windows and mirrors a clean over with my Karcher window vac (honestly this product has made this task so much easier). Finally finishing off with a vacuum and putting the furnishing back to where they belong.
I used to apply a much more haphazard approach to cleaning the house taking items back and forth to the correct room as I came across them however I found that I didn’t really achieve much rather than wearing out the stair carpet from running up and down a hundred times.
How long you think it takes to clean a monument such as Statute of Liberty?
Given the amount of time it takes me to clean my small terrace house I can’t see me being employed to help clean the major monuments of the world. To clean the Statute of Liberty for example I imagine is a bit like painting the Forth Bridge, by the time they have finished it is time to start from the beginning again.
Karcher has done a great quiz, as they clean monuments such as theatres, statutes, towers etc. around the whole world. You can see the quiz HERE.
So how long does it take you to clean your house?
