A pencil and paper

When it comes to buying back to school items it is easy to get caught up in all the displays and offers available in the various stores. With so much on offer you can be tempted to by some non-essentials  when instead you should make sure you have the back to school essentials before anything else and then treat your little ones to the perfect school bag or stationery supplies.

Many schools will issue a list of the things that your child will need for when they return to school in September. Take a look at my back to school essentials…

Uniform

Depending on what your child’s school uniform policy is, will depend largely on what you need to purchase for the school year. However the basic items you will need are:

  • A group of people standing in the grass5x Shirts/polo shirts – one for each day
  • 2/3x Skirts/trousers – hopefully can be worn for two days before needing a wash (unless they are anything like Tigger)
  • 2/3 Jumpers/cardigans – depending on whether your school allows non-logo tops or whether they must have the school logo on them might restrict how many you opt to buy.
  • 5x Socks/tights – personally I bin all socks at the end of August and buy fresh socks for the new school year, makes them easier to pair as they are all the same style

With a range of supermarkets and department stores offering school uniform at great prices it comes down to preference and experience on where you decide to buy from. I’ve had Roo’s school uniform from BHS for the past year and it still looks great and if her school weren’t changing the uniform it would have been good for another term or two.

Footwear

A pair of shoesYou’d be the first to complain if you had to wear shoes that didn’t fit, rubbed or caused you pain whenever you walked etc. Ensuring that you get your child’s feet measured correctly and that you select a good, hard-wearing pair of shoes that is going to stand up to whatever your child throws at them is an essential.

Buying quality brands doesn’t have to cost the earth either, with Kangol school shoes available from Sports Direct starting at just £4.00 (depending on the size you require).

Water bottle

A close up of a boxKeeping hydrated is important to everyone, and especially to children. Throughout the school day they will be involved in activities, sports etc. so  making sure that they have access to a water bottle is essential. Whilst not all children are keen on drinking water, I suggest you try the Brita Fill & Go range:

  • Stylish and reusable water filter bottle
  • Innovative and compact filter technology significantly reduces chlorine, other taste impairing substances and fine solids
  • Your weekly supply of fresh and great water in one handy bottle – simply change the filter once a week for constant high performance and fresh taste anytime

Priced at £9.99 and available from Amazon, Argos and all leading supermarkets.

Outdoor wear

In order for children to experience the best that school can offer them it’s important to have the right clothing. Personally I think you can’t go wrong with a 3-in-1 jacket as it offers the best protection no matter the weather.

Available from Trespass, Amazon, Argos and all other good clothing retailers for around £25.00
