Choosing a pushchair is a really big decision (despite what Mr Boo may say). After all if you choose correctly your precious cargo could be using it for the next two or three years on a daily basis. Get it wrong and it could be a costly fix as you end buying another one.
Practical
Roo’s pushchair was the first pushchair I looked at, although I looked at many, many others in the end my heart was set on the very first one I’d tried out. I opted for a travel system that allowed the car seat to be connected directly to the pushchair to make being out and about in the car and then pushchair easier. It had a large basket and folded relatively small (especially when I compared it to my friends huge pushchair that took up her entire boot and was a monster to push). This was the practical but nothing to look at pushchair
Style over practicality
With Tigger I feel in love with his pushchair via the internet and before I knew that we were expecting a boy. Being a ladybug style pushchair I was gutted that I wouldn’t be able to have it as it might be too girly however being red and black in colour it turned out OK. The pushchair itself was OK but didn’t push as Roo’s old one, the basket was a good size however difficult to get to if Tigger was asleep and the handlebars being an odd design meant that you couldn’t hang anything from them and Roo wasn’t really able to hold on to the pushchair on the school run etc. This was the style over practicality option. Really I should have tried it out in a store but as I’d fallen in love with it I HAD to have it.
Practically and style – can I have it all?
Now that I am pregnant with Piglet I;ve now started looking at pushchairs once again. I’ve become that lady walking down the street checking out every pram that she happens to walk past. I’ve been to countless stores to try out different styles of prams and pushchairs and I’ve bored Mr Boo silly when it comes to my questioning over whether it will be practical as well as looking good.
With so many different prams and pushchairs on the market it has got me wondering…
What do you look for in a pushchair?
I’ve only ever bought one pushchair, we decided to buy this one because you can easily collapse it with one hand, it fits in the car and is easy to push. – www.asliceofmylifewales.com
Style, easy to push, roomy (seat unit), Rain cover supplies and not extra too – themumingtonpost.com
If I was buying right now it would be style, good reviews and it would have to fit the baby and the 2yo – www.redrosemummy.com
Longevity, easy to push one-handed so can hold a toddlers hand too and the option to have a lie flat carrycot for newborns – myfamilyfever.co.uk
Can push with one hand when needed, tall seat, shopping basket holds more than the rain cover! – www.belledubrighton.co.uk
I chose mine because I could push one-handed, it could lie flat so was suitable from birth, and it has 3 wheels so easier to whizz about town! – www.quitefranklyshesaid.com
Easy to push (one-handed), a roomy seat (so it lasts a long time), and easy to put up and down! – www.emilyandindiana.com
Three big wheels, spacious shopping basket and adjustable handle – amumreviews.co.uk
Colour. I bought my pram because it was purple., then regretted it when it couldn’t go off-road though! – www.goblinchild.com
Seat size (I have big babies), how it looks and size of the basket – themummyadventure.com
What I look for when choosing a pushchair
I think for me it has to be ease of pushing, I don’t want something that feels like a shopping trolley. A large basket would be handy especially on the school run with all of Roo and Tigger’s bags and coats. I know I have been burnt by style before but I do want a good looking pushchair, something with a bit of colour or one that I can change the accessories on depending on my mood (and of course Piglet’s outfit).
