Home gadgets that make your life easier

February 21, 2015

We are all busy people, we all have 101 things that we need to do each day. Thankfully there are many home gadgets that make your life easier and allow us to complete some of the necessary tasks a lot easier than if we didn’t have them…

Chinese laundry

The thing about living in the UK is that you are never really sure what the weather is going to be like from one hour to the next. I can remember my Granny having one of those pulley clothes airers in the kitchen that always seemed to be full of clothes. Fast forward many years and I’ve found myself chief clothes washer to a family of four and trying to get all of our clothes washed and dried seems a never ending task. Tumble driers make life so much easier and having limited space in the kitchen we have invested in a washer drier… finally my home no longer looks like a Chinese laundry with clothes hung from every doorway and thrown on radiators.

Telemarketers

I’m very sad to say that many moons ago I used to work for a holiday company that would call you out of the blue, usually at teatime or just as the soaps were starting to ask you ‘just 5 simple questions’. Being just 18 at the time I never really understood why people got annoyed at being called to answer some questions, which in turn let to them being called a week later for a free holiday (time share conference). Now however, I get it… I really get it especially with the numerous call about claiming back mis-sold PPI or have you had an accident in the past 5 years etc. Thanks to Panasonic call blocking phones I no longer have to endure the same spiel about PPI or claiming for injuries, if I don’t recognise the number I don’t answer it.

Dirty dishes

When Mr Boo and I first moved in together we both found that we hated washing up (it’s like putting your hands in the bin… disgusting). It became a bit of a stand off as to who was going to give in to the pile of dirty dishes first… usually who ever needed a clean bowl or cutlery first. When we moved into our current home the first thing we bought was a dishwasher, oh how I love my dishwasher.

Let there be heat

Both of the homes that Mr Boo and I have owned didn’t come with central heating. Our third floor flat had electric heaters which we never used as we managed to gain everyone else’s heat. So we never bothered replacing what was already there. Our house however only had two gas fires downstairs (which were unsafe to use) and the house was freezing. After putting in central heating we soon noticed the difference to the house, however our thermostat is by the back door, the coldest place in the house so when people come over they must think I’m really mean as my heating is set at 14C however any higher and the rest of the house is like a greenhouse. This year we are looking to install a smart meter or Hive Active Heating so that we can take better control of our heating (especially when I forget to turn it off).
